Prime Economist — Digital Industry Magazine & Research Intelligence Platform

Prime economist slogan

At a glance

Prime Economist is an independent, London-based digital magazine co-founded by Ilmar Ashmin and Tal Vitaliy Kharin. We decode economics, business and geopolitics in readable, verifiable prose for people who make decisions. Our work follows one simple sequence: Convey. Empower. Educate.

Prime Economist was established as a UK-based digital industry magazine delivering weekly commentary, curated insights and structured coverage across business, technology, politics and economic affairs.

Over the past year, the platform has developed a consistent editorial presence through its Weekly Digest and thematic analysis, building a foundation of market observation and independent perspective.

As the UK technology sector entered a new productivity-driven phase shaped by AI adoption, cost pressure and evolving hiring models, Prime Economist expanded beyond editorial publishing into a structured research and intelligence platform.

Our Structure

Today, Prime Economist operates across two integrated layers:

Editorial & Insights Layer

Ongoing industry commentary, Weekly Digest publications and contextual analysis providing visibility into market developments.

This layer reflects our foundation as a digital magazine and remains active as a continuous insight and distribution channel.

Research & Intelligence Layer

Prime Economist’s Research & Intelligence division delivers structured, economics-driven analysis designed for strategic decision-makers in UK technology companies.

Our research focuses on:

- AI impact on hiring economics
- Workforce productivity and ROI modelling
- Junior role compression and talent structure shifts
- Headcount optimisation strategies
- Long-term workforce economics in UK tech SMEs (10–100 employees)

What we produce within Research & Intelligence:

- Flagship economic research reports
- Executive intelligence briefings
- Applied workforce modelling frameworks
- Thematic industry research initiatives
- Strategic insight collaborations with category-exclusive partners

Our research initiatives are designed to move beyond commentary and provide economically structured analysis that can inform real hiring, workforce and capital allocation decisions.

Prime Economist produces flagship research reports, executive briefings and strategic intelligence initiatives designed to support founders, CTOs, HR leaders and commercial decision-makers navigating workforce transformation.

Our approach combines economic reasoning, applied modelling, expert interviews and structured market observation — prioritising clarity, logic and strategic applicability over speculation.

We collaborate with a limited number of category-exclusive strategic partners across recruitment, HR technology and AI developer tooling, enabling them to position at the centre of UK workforce and hiring economics transformation.

Prime Economist continues to publish editorial insights while advancing its core mission: bringing economic structure and analytical clarity to workforce decision-making in UK technology companies.

Why we exist

Explain before you persuade: Prime Economist was created by two co-founders who believe journalism should illuminate, not shout. When we take a view, we show our workings so you can judge the evidence for yourself.

Our journey

Launched in January 2025, Prime Economist began as a digital industry magazine focused on structured analysis across economics, business and geopolitics.

Since launch, we’ve published steadily across explainers, how-tos and founder-focused features, with the Weekly Digest moving from pilot to a regular Friday edition in mid-2025.

Our Top 10 Startups of the Month became a recurring spotlight, and Your Prime Guide developed into a consistent strand on the personal economy.

While Prime Economist as a publication launched in 2025, its research-driven foundation reflects the long-standing analytical and economic research background of its co-founders, whose structured approach to market observation and economic reasoning dates back to 2006.

In 2026, the platform formally expanded into a dedicated Research & Intelligence layer, focusing on workforce economics, hiring ROI and AI-driven structural shifts in UK tech SMEs.

We keep the site active and the archive maintained, and we update this page to reflect reality, not plans.

Updated: January 2026.
